Aurora Police shooting

The Illinois State Police are investigating the death of Kirtis Shane Davenport, 43, who died following a multi-county pursuit by Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputies that began after a reported burglary. This marks the second officer-involved death involving the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office in three months, following the shooting of an unarmed woman by a deputy in July. Meanwhile, in Aurora, an officer-involved shooting occurred during a response to a fight in a parking lot, resulting in one non-officer injury. Details about the Aurora incident remain limited as the investigation unfolds. Additionally, a separate officer-involved shooting in Plano led to the death of a 70-year-old man, Russell Novak, after he was shot multiple times during a confrontation with law enforcement. The Illinois State Police are also handling the investigation for this incident as well.
