Australia Achieves Record 46.4% Renewable Energy Share in Q4

In the final quarter of 2024, renewable energy sources achieved a record 46.4% share of Australia's national electricity market, surpassing the previous high of 42.5% in Q4 2023, according to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). This milestone marks the first time that coal-fired power's contribution fell below 50%, driven by increased output from solar energy amid a decline in coal availability. Despite a rise in wholesale electricity prices, the overall emissions from the national electricity market decreased by 1.7% compared to the same period in 2023. Additionally, clean energy is being recognized as a vital sector for Australia’s economic future, providing approximately 40,000 jobs across varied trades.
