Director Paul Feig has expressed confusion over the negative critical reception of his action-comedy film Jackpot!, despite its success as the No. 1 movie on Amazon for four consecutive weeks. In a recent podcast interview, Feig criticized critics for trying to find deeper meaning in a film he intended to be a light-hearted homage to Jackie Chan movies. Jackpot! follows Katie Kim (Awkwafina), a former child star who wins the lottery but must survive a deadly competition where others can kill her to claim her prize, leading her to team up with protection agent Noel Cassidy (John Cena). The film has received a dismal 31% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which Feig attributes to critics misunderstanding the premise. He emphasized that his goal was to deliver comedy, not to create a commentary on contemporary issues. Feig is known for directing successful comedies such as Bridesmaids and The Heat and is set to direct an adaptation of The Housemaid next.
