Two Women Sentenced for Intoxicated Fatal Motorcycle Crashes in Washington, North Carolina
Two separate fatal motorcycle crashes involving impaired drivers have resulted in prison sentences for the offenders. In Yakima County, Washington, 25-year-old Beth Striver pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular assault after a crash in which she struck three motorcycles, killing two men and injuring two others; she was found to be intoxicated with four shots of vodka before driving. In Hickory, North Carolina, 31-year-old Stephanie Leighann Harris was sentenced to six to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired, and driving while license revoked following a crash where she turned left into the path of 19-year-old motorcyclist Coble Hartman, who later died from his injuries; Harris had twice the legal alcohol limit and a prior DWI conviction. The victim's parents in North Carolina addressed the court, expressing forgiveness and hoping Harris would learn and grow from the tragedy. Authorities emphasize the frequency and dangers of motorcycle crashes, particularly those involving impaired driving and intersections, urging drivers to remain vigilant. Both cases highlight ongoing concerns about drunk driving and motorcycle safety in the United States.
