Joseph Aoun Elected President of Lebanon
Lebanon has elected Joseph Aoun, the army chief, as its president, ending a two-year power vacuum. His election comes after a ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, following a war that devastated parts of Lebanon and significantly weakened Hezbollah. French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Aoun's election and pledged support for his efforts to form a new government capable of implementing essential reforms for economic recovery. Macron also plans to visit Lebanon soon to further discuss support for national dialogue and stability. Aoun's presidency aims to address Lebanon's severe economic crisis and restore sovereignty amidst ongoing political challenges. France's commitment to Lebanon's recovery includes overseeing the ceasefire implementation with international partners.
