Stagecoach, High Peak Buses Take Over 170 Route After Hulleys Closure
Hulleys of Baslow, a long-standing operator in the Peak District, has announced the cessation of its services, effective March 26, 2025, due to ongoing financial difficulties and reliability issues. In response, Stagecoach and High Peak Buses will take over the vital 170 route connecting Chesterfield and Bakewell, ensuring continued service for local residents. High Peak Buses will provide hourly services on weekdays, while Stagecoach will also operate the 63 service to Matlock, with no interruptions in service expected. Derbyshire County Council expressed concern over the reliability of Hulleys' services, leading to the decision to find alternative operators for routes previously managed by Hulleys. The council hopes that other local bus companies will absorb Hulleys' displaced employees as new operators step in. This transition aims to maintain essential transport links for communities dependent on these bus services.
