Athletics relocating to Las Vegas by 2028

Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred has confirmed that the Oakland Athletics are on track to relocate to Las Vegas by 2028. Currently, the team is playing temporarily at a minor league stadium in Sacramento, California, which Manfred described as 'charming.' The Las Vegas Stadium Authority has cleared significant hurdles for the construction of a $1.75 billion stadium on the Strip, with public funding of $380 million from Nevada and Clark County. Team owner John Fisher has pledged $1.1 billion toward the project, with additional financing from U.S. Bank and Goldman Sachs. As the team navigates its final season in Oakland, fans have expressed frustration over the move, particularly after a disappointing final season where the A's lost 93 games. The new stadium is expected to feature a capacity of 33,000 and groundbreaking is anticipated in spring 2024, with plans to open in time for the 2028 season.
