Man Charged with Furnishing Alcohol After Pirates Fan’s 21-Foot Fall

Ethan Kirkwood, 21, has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of furnishing alcohol to Kavan Markwood, a 20-year-old Pirates fan who suffered a severe fall from the 21-foot Roberto Clemente Wall at PNC Park during a game on April 30. Surveillance footage showed Kirkwood purchasing multiple beers and providing them to Markwood, who was underage, shortly before the incident. Markwood sustained serious injuries including trauma to his skull, brain, spine, ribs, lungs, neck, and clavicle, leading to a lengthy recovery process involving therapy and rehabilitation. Kirkwood admitted to buying alcohol for Markwood during questioning and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing. The case has raised concerns about alcohol enforcement in large public venues. Markwood, a former high school and college football player, has shown progress in recovery, including taking his first steps post-accident.
