Florida Man Charged After Stolen Ambulance Chase

Michael J. Esquilin, a 43-year-old Tampa man, is facing multiple charges after stealing an ambulance from HCA South Tampa Hospital and leading police on a dangerous chase. The incident began when Esquilin took the ambulance after paramedics refused him a ride home. During the pursuit, which lasted several miles, he drove erratically, running stop signs and driving on the wrong side of the road. He was eventually apprehended after stopping and drinking a beer in front of law enforcement. Esquilin, who admitted to drinking for two consecutive days, has a history of DUIs and is now charged with burglary, grand theft, DUI, and resisting arrest. Due to his conduct and past offenses, a judge imposed a screen and GPS monitor, banning alcohol during the trial period.
