Las Vegas Raiders Suffer Record-Low Offensive Performance in 31-0 Loss to Chiefs
The Las Vegas Raiders limped into their bye week after a 31-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs that dropped them to 2-5 and prompted locker-room shame and calls for 'soul searching.' The offense was historically inept — a franchise-low 95 yards on just 30 plays, only three first downs and 0-for-7 on third down — and Geno Smith called the performance 'embarrassing.' Key injuries to Jakobi Meyers, Brock Bowers and Kolton Miller worsened matters but, Smith and others said, do not fully explain the collapse and cannot be the sole excuses. Players and coaches blamed execution problems — penalties, turnovers, missed blocks and tackles — and some critics questioned play-calling (notably an early reluctance to run against a Chiefs defense vulnerable to the rush). The organization says it will use the bye to take a deep dive, but analysts and insiders warn the Raiders’ problems run deeper than one offseason or a single personnel move and will require longer-term fixes.
