Officer Stabbed, Suspect Shot Outside Santa Monica Station

On October 5, a violent confrontation outside the Santa Monica Police Department led to an officer being stabbed and the suspect being shot dead. Bodycam footage reveals the officer was initially speaking to a resident when the suspect approached, allegedly concealing a knife. After the officer expressed concern about the suspect's behavior, the latter lunged at him with a knife, resulting in a struggle where the officer was stabbed multiple times but managed to fatally shoot the assailant. The suspect, a 28-year-old man from New York, had previously assaulted a Target employee and stolen knives. The injured officer was hospitalized with severe stab wounds but has since been released and is recovering. Both the shooting and the suspect's actions are under investigation by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office and the Santa Monica Police Department.
