Two Fatal Crashes Reported in Monroe County

Two recent fatal crashes have occurred in Monroe County, Michigan. In Whiteford Township, a 24-year-old Ohio man caused a high-speed collision that killed Kaitlyn Ellison, a pregnant woman, and her unborn child; he fled the scene but was later apprehended and now faces homicide and OWI charges. In a separate incident in Summerfield Township, a 61-year-old Ohio woman died after her Jeep was rear-ended by 19-year-old Matthew Whitney, causing her vehicle to overturn and land on its roof. Whitney was hospitalized in serious condition, and authorities do not believe alcohol was a factor in this crash. Both crashes remain under investigation. Authorities are seeking additional information from the public.
