Finnish boxer Robert Helenius has been banned for two years by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) after testing positive for clomifene, a banned substance, following his heavyweight bout against Anthony Joshua in August 2023. Helenius, who lost the fight by knockout in the seventh round, claimed the substance came from contaminated eggs and chicken, but was unable to provide evidence to support this. The ban has been backdated to his provisional suspension on September 18, 2023, making him eligible to compete again on September 17, 2025. Clomifene, a female fertility drug that can boost testosterone levels in men, is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Helenius had stepped in as a last-minute replacement for Joshua's original opponent, Dillian Whyte, who also failed a drug test.
