Colorado Jury Convicts Man Life Murder Robbery Wheat Ridge

Charles Robinson Shay was found guilty by a Jefferson County jury of multiple charges including first-degree murder for the 2023 robbery and killing of jewelry store owner Peter Damian Arguello in Wheat Ridge. Surveillance footage showed Shay pulling a gun on Arguello, attempting to handcuff him, and shooting him three times after resistance. DNA evidence from flex cuffs at the crime scene linked Shay to the murder. Shay was also convicted of other charges such as aggravated robbery, second-degree murder, kidnapping, motor vehicle theft, and arson, and faces a mandatory life sentence without parole, with sentencing scheduled for September 10. A second suspect, Michael McCormack, charged with second-degree murder and other offenses, is set to stand trial on August 22. Police recovered a red pickup truck used in the crime, which had been set on fire, and found items matching those seen in surveillance videos.
