Texas DPS Trooper Wins Top North American Inspectors Championship
Trooper Dustin Henderson of the Texas Department of Public Safety, based in San Angelo, has won the prestigious 2025 Jimmy K. Ammons Grand Champion Award at the North American Inspectors Championship (NAIC), the highest honor for commercial motor vehicle roadside inspectors in North America. The competition, held in Minneapolis and involving 46 top inspectors from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, included rigorous testing in six inspection categories over two days, featuring timed mock roadside inspections and advanced safety protocols. Henderson not only earned the Grand Champion title but also received the High Points Award as the top-scoring U.S. inspector, placing first in the North American Standard Level I Inspection and securing second places in Hazardous Materials/Cargo Tank and Passenger Carrier Vehicle inspections. DPS Colonel Freeman F. Martin praised Henderson's dedication and expertise, highlighting the importance of his achievement for Texas and roadway safety. As the 2025 Grand Champion, Henderson will represent Texas at the upcoming CVSA Annual Conference in Denver, where he will be honored. The event also serves as a platform for inspectors to receive training on the latest safety technologies and regulations, which they bring back to their communities to enhance traffic safety.
