The Egyptian government has revoked the licenses of 16 tourism companies and referred their managers to the public prosecutor after hundreds of pilgrims died during the Hajj pilgrimage due to extreme heat. The companies are accused of sending pilgrims on personal visas instead of Hajj visas, which left them without access to necessary facilities and medical care. Official reports indicate that at least 530 Egyptians died, with many more unregistered pilgrims among the deceased. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly expressed condolences and emphasized the need for stricter regulations to prevent such incidents in the future. The crisis unit formed to address the situation noted that registered pilgrims received better support and services, while many unregistered visitors suffered due to inadequate provisions from the travel agencies. The Saudi government has confirmed 1,114 deaths overall, attributing many to the harsh weather conditions.
