Alex Formenton Sues Agent for $20.5 Million

Former NHL player Alex Formenton has filed a $20.5 million lawsuit against his former agent Wade Arnott and Newport Sports Management Inc., alleging negligence, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary duty. Formenton claims he suffered income losses for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons due to Arnott's mishandling of contract negotiations with the Ottawa Senators, which left him ineligible to play in the NHL. The lawsuit also seeks $500,000 in punitive damages, citing Newport’s 'bad faith and high-handed conduct'. Additionally, Formenton is one of five players facing sexual assault charges related to an incident after a Hockey Canada gala in 2018, although his lawsuit does not mention these allegations. Arnott allegedly failed to provide adequate advice during critical contract negotiations, leading to a significant loss of income. The allegations in the lawsuit have not yet been tested in court, and Newport has not publicly commented on the matter.
