Scottsdale human trafficking operation nets 202 arrests

A recent human trafficking crackdown in Scottsdale, Arizona, led to the arrest of 202 individuals over a 12-day operation conducted from January 22 to February 15. The operation, executed by the Scottsdale Police Department's Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit (HEAT) in collaboration with multiple agencies, targeted sex buyers, child predators, and others involved in sex trafficking, utilizing decoys to ensure no children were directly involved. Among the arrests, there were 53 felony charges and 149 misdemeanors, encompassing offenses such as child sex trafficking, attempted sexual conduct with a minor, and drug possession. The operation involved several local police departments as well as the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. Officials highlighted the proactive nature of the operation in combating human trafficking in the area. The initiative underscores the ongoing efforts to address this critical issue within the community.
