The U.S. Air Force Academy is investigating the death of 19-year-old Cadet Avery Koonce, found unconscious in her dormitory on September 4. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, Koonce, a freshman and track athlete from Taylor, Texas, passed away. The cause of death is currently unknown. Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind praised Koonce for her positive impact and announced support services for her family and the Academy community. U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions, who nominated Koonce for the Academy, remembered her as an exceptional leader with aspirations to become a pilot physical therapist. Koonce's death has deeply affected her community and the Academy family.
