Earthshot Finalists to Compete in Rio on Nov. 5

The Earthshot Prize has named 15 finalists whose winners will be revealed at the fifth awards ceremony in Rio de Janeiro on 5 November 2025, hosted at the Museum of Tomorrow. Each winner across the prize’s five categories will receive £1 million to scale their solutions. Founded by Prince William in 2020, the prize marks a halfway point to the 2030 sustainability targets and provides funding, networks and development support to finalists. This year’s nominees were drawn from nearly 2,500 submissions across 72 countries and include British startup Matter (washing-machine filters for microplastics), Barbados’ fossil‑free-by‑2030 effort, Guangzhou’s electrified public transport project and Sydney’s upcycled Quay Quarter Tower. Winners will be chosen by Prince William together with the Earthshot Prize Council, which includes public figures such as Cate Blanchett and Queen Rania, and the Rio location is expected to raise global attention and boost regional environmental leadership and eco-tourism.
