Oklahoma Pediatrician Extradited to Miami for Daughter's Murder Charge

Dr. Neha Gupta, a 36-year-old pediatrician from Oklahoma, has been extradited to Miami and charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 4-year-old daughter, Aria Talathi. Authorities found Aria unresponsive in a swimming pool at a rental home in El Portal, but an autopsy revealed she died before entering the water, with injuries consistent with smothering rather than drowning. Gupta initially claimed her daughter accidentally fell into the pool and that she tried to rescue her despite not knowing how to swim, but officials say her story quickly unraveled. The mother and daughter had traveled from Oklahoma City to South Florida for a beach getaway, and the case emerges amid a contentious custody battle with Aria's father, who was unaware of the out-of-state trip. Dr. Gupta was suspended and terminated from her medical position prior to the arrest. She is currently held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, awaiting a bond hearing.
