Mattel Honors Rita Moreno with Tribute Barbie Doll

Mattel has released a new Barbie doll in honor of Rita Moreno's upcoming 93rd birthday, part of the Barbie Tribute Collection, which honors women who have made significant cultural impacts, like Moreno, the first Latina to win an Academy Award. The doll's dress is inspired by the gown Moreno wore at the 34th Oscar ceremony in 1962 when she won Best Supporting Actress for 'West Side Story.' In her statement, Moreno expressed hope that the doll will inspire girls to live with courage and resilience. Throughout her seven-decade career, Moreno achieved EGOT status and advocated for authentic Latino narratives in Hollywood. Her activism in gender and racial equality has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and a Kennedy Center Honor. The doll was crafted with Moreno's involvement and joins the ranks of other icons in the Tribute Collection such as Lucille Ball and Laverne Cox.
