Lennie Acuff Named Samford Men's Basketball Head Coach

Lennie Acuff has been appointed as the new head coach for Samford University, succeeding Bucky McMillan, who left for Texas A&M. Acuff led Lipscomb University to three consecutive 20-win seasons and a 2025 NCAA Tournament appearance, concluding his tenure with a 25-10 record after a defeat to Iowa State. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Acuff returns to his home state to be closer to his family, including his adult children living in Birmingham. During his six-season stint with Lipscomb, Acuff achieved five winning seasons and won both the Atlantic Sun regular-season and tournament championships. Lipscomb Athletic Director Philip Hutcheson praised Acuff for his integrity and commitment, while confirming the commencement of a national search for his replacement. Acuff's hiring represents a strategic move for Samford as they aim to maintain their competitive momentum in the Southern Conference.
