Australia Receives First Two HIMARS Rocket Systems
Australia has received its first two High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) as part of a $1.6 billion program to enhance its military's long-range strike capabilities. The acquisition, which is part of a broader strategy to address security concerns related to regional threats, includes a total order of 42 units and the domestic production of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) missiles. Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy emphasized that this investment represents a more than ten-fold increase in Australia's striking range. The newly formed 10th Fire Support Brigade in Adelaide will oversee the integration of the HIMARS systems. This move is also a response to the Australian Defence Force's strategic review that highlighted the need for long-range deterrence amid growing military tensions in the region. The HIMARS systems are expected to bolster Australia's defense and contribute to a more robust national security framework.
