Russian retailers M.Video-Eldorado and MTS have launched pre-sales for Apple's iPhone 16, circumventing an export ban imposed by Apple due to sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The iPhone 16 is priced significantly higher in Russia, starting at 112,999 roubles ($1,225), compared to the U.S. price of $799. Deliveries from M.Video are expected to begin next week, while MTS anticipates starting physical sales soon. The iPhones are being imported through countries that have not imposed sanctions, reflecting a parallel import scheme sanctioned by the Russian government. Demand for the new iPhone models has surged, exceeding last year's pre-order figures by 4.8 times, with the 128GB version being the most popular. Despite the higher costs, interest in Western technology remains strong among Russian consumers.
