The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio completed their merger on September 1, 2025, forming a single institution now known as UT San Antonio. This newly consolidated university has become Texas' third-largest public research institution, with 40,000 students, 17,000 employees, over $486 million in annual research expenditures, and a $1.3 billion endowment. The combined university comprises 15 colleges and schools across six campuses, offering more than 320 undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a new journalism program, and features the only academic health center in South Texas, which manages over 2.5 million patient visits annually. The merger is expected to generate a $7 billion annual economic impact and significantly strengthen the region's biosciences and healthcare sectors. University leadership emphasized the synergy created by integrating academics, healthcare, research, and clinical care, aiming to advance innovation and improve community well-being locally and nationally. Student-athletes will continue competing in the American Conference under the mascot Rowdy the Roadrunner, highlighting the university's commitment to maintaining a vibrant campus life.
