Three LA Sheriff Deputies Killed in Training Blast
Three veteran Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies—Joshua Kelley-Eklund, Victor Lemus, and William Osborn—were killed in an explosion while transporting an explosive device collected the previous day at the Biscailuz Center Training Academy in East Los Angeles. All three deputies were members of the elite Arson Explosives Detail and together had 74 years of service. The blast, which occurred early Friday morning, marks the department’s deadliest day since 1857. The FBI and ATF are assisting local authorities in investigating the cause of the explosion, which remains undetermined. The tragedy has prompted widespread condolences and renewed scrutiny of safety protocols at LASD training facilities. Community members and law enforcement agencies have expressed sorrow and gratitude for the deputies’ service.
