Sri Lanka Names Athapaththu-Led Squad for Tri-Series Against India, South Africa
Sri Lanka has announced a revamped 17-member women's squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series against India and South Africa, introducing eight changes following a recent series defeat to New Zealand. Chamari Athapaththu will continue as captain, while medium pacer Malki Madara has been awarded her first ODI call-up after an impressive T20I debut. The squad also marks the return of experienced players such as Vishmi Gunaratne, Nilakshi Silva, Hasini Perera, and several others. The tri-series begins April 27 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, with Sri Lanka facing India in the opening match and the final scheduled for May 11. The series is viewed as vital preparation for all participating teams ahead of the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India. Selectors have aimed for a balanced mix of youth and experience to build momentum toward the global tournament.
