Man Transforms Cow Shed into Dream Home

Simon Baker, 52, sold his one-bedroom flat in London to purchase a derelict cow shed in the Machno Valley, North Wales, investing all his savings despite lacking planning permission. Baker described the venture as a 'huge gamble' but has no regrets about spending cold nights camping in his car during renovations. The shed, dating back to 1760, has been transformed into a modern home and is a finalist on BBC One's Wales Home of The Year. He expressed that it was love at first sight with the shed, which many in his family deemed a reckless decision. Throughout the restoration, he focused on preserving the building's historical elements, using local materials and collaborating with local builders. Baker emphasized the importance of maintaining the shed's original character, stating, 'There was no point loving the place and then changing it completely.'
