After officers arrived and the man fled along a public trail, they attempted to subdue him using less-lethal force, which was ineffective. The man then pointed the replica gun at officers, prompting two South San Francisco officers and one San Bruno officer to fire their service weapons, killing him at the scene. The firearm was later confirmed to be a replica, and no officers or bystanders were injured.
