The match will feature the current Ranji Trophy champions, Mumbai, competing against a Rest of India team selected by the national selection committee at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Players from the Indian Test team will not participate in the Rest of India squad as it coincides with the final day of a Test match against Bangladesh. Mumbai, led by Ajinkya Rahane, recently secured their 42nd Ranji Trophy title by defeating Vidarbha. Historically, Rest of India has won the Irani Cup 30 times, while Mumbai has 14 titles to their name. The tournament is named after Zal R Irani, a notable figure in Indian cricket administration.
