China's Dongfang plans 2GW wind turbine factory to boost Turkey's renewable capacity
China's Dongfang Electric Corporation plans to invest approximately $250 million to build a wind turbine production facility in Turkey with an annual capacity of 2 gigawatts, as announced by Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar. This development aligns with Turkey's ambitious target to reach 120 gigawatts of combined solar and wind power capacity by 2035, aiming to increase domestic manufacturing potential in renewable energy technologies. The facility is expected to support Turkey's green energy transition by boosting local turbine and panel production, reducing reliance on imported technology. Turkey currently operates around 4,000 wind turbines with 13,695 megawatts of installed wind power capacity, making wind energy the third-largest renewable source in the country. Discussions between Turkish officials and Dongfang executives focused on translating renewable energy expansion goals into concrete industrial projects. This collaboration is also part of Turkey's broader strategy to modernize power infrastructure and tap into regional renewable energy markets.
