Miami Lawyer Sentenced for Child Pornography

William Power McCaughan Jr., a former Miami attorney and prosecutor, has been sentenced to 190 months in federal prison for producing child sexual abuse material. His actions involved soliciting explicit images from minors and sharing child pornography over the messaging app Kik, including a video of an 11-year-old girl. The investigation was initiated after a Texas man was caught sharing explicit material with an undercover FBI agent, which led authorities to McCaughan. During chats, he expressed desires for more explicit content involving young victims and instructed minors on how to pose for images. McCaughan's law license was revoked due to these crimes, and he is part of the Department of Justice's Project Safe Childhood initiative aimed at combating child exploitation. A restitution hearing is scheduled for November 19, 2024.
