Ghana, Canada Sign Historic Air Transport Agreement to Boost Trade

Canada and Ghana have signed their first-ever air transport agreement, aimed at enhancing connectivity, tourism, and trade between the two nations. The agreement allows airlines from both countries to operate up to 14 weekly passenger flights and 10 weekly all-cargo flights, with greater flexibility in airline designation. Minister of Transport Anita Anand highlighted Ghana's growing importance to Canada’s economic strategy, noting that the deal would create new opportunities for travelers and businesses. This agreement aligns with Canada's Blue Sky policy, which promotes sustainable competition in the aviation sector. The economic benefits are significant, with two-way trade between Canada and Ghana exceeding $380 million in 2023. Both ministers emphasized the potential for this agreement to strengthen cultural and commercial ties and support Canadian exporters in the West African market.
