Portland Thorns, WNBA Team Plan Joint Training Facility in Hillsboro

A new $150 million joint training center for the Portland Thorns FC and the city's unnamed WNBA team is set to be built in Hillsboro, Oregon, with plans to open before the 2026 WNBA season. The facility will repurpose a former Nike site on 12 acres and will include various amenities such as locker rooms, lounges, two soccer fields, a gym with basketball courts, and team offices. This collaboration is notable as it marks the first time teams from both leagues will train together, emphasizing a commitment to creating a supportive environment for athletes. The Thorns and the new WNBA franchise are both owned by the Bhathal family, who are also stakeholders in the NBA's Sacramento Kings. The Bhathals purchased the Thorns for $63 million last year and paid $125 million for the WNBA franchise. The new training center reflects a focus on athlete-centered design, with input from players during its planning phase.
