South Carolina Installs Free EV Charging Stations in 30 State Parks

South Carolina has launched a network of free electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at 30 of its 47 state parks, thanks to a partnership with Rivian. These chargers, capable of adding approximately 25 miles of range per hour, aim to promote sustainable travel and enhance the visitor experience in the state's natural settings. Despite some challenges, such as occasional blockages by non-EVs and maintenance issues, user feedback has been largely positive, highlighting the convenience of charging while enjoying outdoor activities. This initiative is particularly significant as South Carolina ranks low in fast charging availability per capita, making these stations crucial for eco-friendly tourism. Visitors must pay a nominal admission fee to the parks, but the electricity used for charging is free.
