NJ Officers Charged with Sexual Assault, Witness Tampering

Two senior corrections officers, Gary Nieves and William Young, have been charged with sexually assaulting an 18-year-old female resident at the Female Secure Care and Intake Facility in Bordentown, New Jersey. The charges, announced by Attorney General Matthew Platkin, include sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, official misconduct, and witness tampering. The alleged assaults occurred on multiple occasions in various locations within the facility, including the victim's living quarters and shared spaces. Authorities state that Nieves and Young used their positions to exploit the victim, who confirmed the accusations. Platkin emphasized that such conduct is intolerable and warrants serious consequences, as the officers were expected to protect and care for the juveniles. Both officers have been taken into custody, and prosecutors plan to seek their detention ahead of trial.
