Tommy Robinson Sentence Reduced, Release Imminent

Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, is set to be released from prison within days after the High Court reduced his 18-month contempt of court sentence by four months. Robinson was jailed in October 2023 for repeatedly violating a court order not to make false allegations about a Syrian refugee, which led to threats against the refugee and his family and a successful libel suit. The sentence reduction followed Robinson's efforts to remove offending content from his social media accounts, though the judge noted he showed no contrition. Robinson was held in segregation at HMP Woodhill due to safety concerns, and his lawyers argued that this isolation was affecting his health. The court and Solicitor General's lawyers initially opposed a lesser sentence but agreed to the reduction after acknowledging Robinson's compliance with the injunction. Robinson is expected to be released within the week following the court's decision.
