Franziska Brantner Elected Co-Chair of German Greens

Germany's Green Party elected Franziska Brantner and Felix Banaszak as co-chairs during a party congress in Wiesbaden, with Brantner receiving 78% of the votes and Banaszak 93%. Brantner, who previously served as a state secretary in the economy ministry, aims to rejuvenate the party's image, referring to her campaign as 'make Green great again.' She emphasized the importance of European independence from Russian gas and announced intentions to invest more in European security. Banaszak, who brings experience from his role as state chairman in North Rhine-Westphalia, highlighted the need for internal debate within the party. Following disappointing election results, the new leadership aims to boost the party's current polling of around 11%. Both leaders will serve a two-year term, succeeding Ricarda Lang and Omid Nouripour, who resigned in September.
