Intel Expands Oregon Layoffs to 2,392 Employees

Intel has raised its planned Oregon layoffs from 529 to 2,392 employees, with job cuts set to begin July 15 across four campuses in Hillsboro and Aloha. The layoffs, part of CEO Lip-Bu Tan's push to streamline the company amid a sharp sales downturn and technological setbacks, will impact about 1 in 12 Intel workers in Oregon. These cuts constitute one of the largest workforce reductions in Oregon’s history and add to economic anxiety amid rising unemployment in the state. Nationwide, Intel is laying off nearly 4,000 workers, including additional job cuts in California, Arizona, and Texas, with the possibility of more layoffs ahead. Affected Oregon employees are not represented by a union, and Intel has pledged to handle the layoffs with care and respect. Intel’s restructuring is aimed at making the company leaner and more efficient as it faces stiff competition in the semiconductor industry.
