Marvel Director Schreier Begins Work on X-Men Reboot
Jake Schreier, director of Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts*, has officially begun work on the new MCU X-Men movie, which is expected to arrive after Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with no official release date or casting announced yet. Schreier described the project as "very, very exciting" and highlighted how his experience with Thunderbolts* taught him to balance action sequences with emotional, character-driven scenes, a skill he plans to apply to the X-Men film. He emphasized the complexity and internal conflicts of the X-Men characters, seeing it as an incredible opportunity to explore deeper themes of identity and place in the world. The new X-Men movie aims to usher in a fresh narrative era for the MCU, post-Avengers: Secret Wars, as Marvel Studios fine-tunes the script and prepares for casting. Thunderbolts*, featuring a team of antiheroes, will debut on Disney+ on August 27, 2025, showcasing Schreier's style and experience with ensemble superhero storytelling. Schreier also praised the unique filming experiences on Thunderbolts*, including shooting in extreme locations, which he hopes to bring to the X-Men project.
