Nationals' James Wood Hits First MLB Homer
Washington Nationals rookie James Wood hit his first major league home run, a three-run shot, and added a two-run double, driving in five runs in a 14-6 rout of the St. Louis Cardinals. Called up from Triple-A Rochester, Wood has reached base in all six of his MLB games and is hitting .304. Keibert Ruiz also had a significant game with a three-run homer, contributing to the Nationals' season-high 14 runs on 15 hits. Despite an early 9-0 lead, Nationals starter MacKenzie Gore struggled, allowing five runs over 3 1/3 innings. Cardinals starter Lance Lynn had a career-worst outing, giving up 11 runs in just 2 2/3 innings. The Nationals have now won three of their last four games after a recent slump.
