Two Fatal Vehicle Crashes Kill Men in Fairfield, Ohio and Massachusetts

Two fatal vehicle crashes in Fairfield County have resulted in the deaths of a 23-year-old man and a 42-year-old man. On US Route 33 near Berne Township, Austin T. Mathias, driving a Ford Ranger, was killed when his vehicle was struck from behind by a Mazda pickup driven by Quinlan W. McCabe, who failed to maintain a safe distance, causing Mathias' truck to overturn after hitting a traffic sign. McCabe was taken to Fairfield Medical Center and later released, while the crash remains under investigation with no charges yet announced. Separately, Travis Clark, 42, died in a motorcycle crash on Route 104 in Fairfield when he failed to negotiate a curve and struck a telephone pole; speed is believed to be a contributing factor. Both incidents are under active investigation by local authorities. Emergency responders including the Fairfield and Benton Fire-Rescue Departments assisted at the scenes.
