Westbrook Man Found Dead in Messerschmidt Pond

Andrew Corbett, 38, of Westbrook, Connecticut, was found dead in Messerschmidt Pond after being missing since July 30. His overturned canoe and parked vehicle were discovered near the pond, leading authorities to concentrate their search efforts there, despite initial uncertainty about whether he was in the water. Corbett was last seen at a CVS in Groton around 11 p.m. on the night he disappeared. An autopsy will be conducted by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of death, and the case is under investigation by DEEP EnCon Police. This tragedy comes after another recent incident in Connecticut, where a 6-year-old boy's body was recovered from the Housatonic River.
