Shrek 5 Release Date Delayed to 2026

Universal Pictures has announced a rescheduling of major animated film releases, notably delaying 'Shrek 5' from July 1, 2026, to December 23, 2026, in celebration of the franchise's 25th anniversary. Concurrently, 'Minions 3' has been moved up to fill the vacated summer slot, now set for July 1, 2026, following the success of 'Despicable Me 4', which grossed $230 million globally. 'Shrek 5' will see the return of original voice actors Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz and is directed by veterans Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon. The film's production team includes returning producer Gina Shay and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri. Additionally, an untitled Illumination event film has been postponed to June 30, 2027. Both franchises have proven to be substantial financial successes, with the 'Shrek' series grossing over $2.9 billion worldwide.
