61-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dies in Single-Vehicle South Bend Crash

A motorcyclist, 61-year-old Grant Burkett of South Bend, died early Saturday morning following a single-vehicle crash on Michigan Street near Ireland Road. Police reported that Burkett was traveling westbound on the St. Joseph Valley Parkway and attempted to take the northbound exit onto Michigan Street but failed to negotiate the curve, causing him to run off the road and crash. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, which occurred around 4:45 a.m. Authorities pronounced Burkett deceased at the scene and have notified his family. The crash caused temporary road closures but the roads have since reopened. The South Bend Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the accident.
