Dinesh Karthik, former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, has reversed his retirement to join the Paarl Royals for the SA20 League 2025, becoming the first Indian to play in the South Africa-based franchise league. Originally retiring after the IPL 2024 season with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Karthik cited fond memories and the opportunity to play competitive cricket again as reasons for his return. In addition to playing, Karthik has been named a brand ambassador for the SA20 League, joining former teammate AB de Villiers in promoting the league globally. Jos Buttler will not return to the Royals this season to focus on international duties. Karthik's role will also involve mentoring and expanding the league's fan base, particularly in India and the UK. The 2025 season of SA20 is set to take place from January 9 to February 8.
