The footage was discovered during research for Luhrmann's 2022 Elvis biopic, found in 68 boxes of film negatives stored in Warner Bros.' underground salt mine vaults. The restoration process took two years to bring the footage to a quality never before projected, including meticulous sound recovery from unconventional sources. The film is described as neither a traditional documentary nor a concert film but a unique presentation where Elvis narrates his journey through rare concert performances and personal audio. Luhrmann shared clips from the film at Sony Music Vision's inaugural showcase, receiving enthusiastic fan responses and anticipation for its release. While a specific release date has not been announced, the documentary is expected to debut later in 2025.
