Freida Pinto To Star In Netflix’s Unaccustomed Earth Series

Netflix is developing an eight-episode drama series titled 'Unaccustomed Earth,' adapted from Jhumpa Lahiri's acclaimed short story collection and set within an elite Indian-American community in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The series stars Freida Pinto as Parul Chaudhury, with a plot centered on a scandalous romance between a devoted wife and her long-lost love, exploring themes of love, desire, identity, and belonging. The adaptation is co-written by John Wells, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Madhuri Shekar as showrunner and co-writer. Ritesh Batra directs and executive produces the first two episodes, with additional executive producers including Jhumpa Lahiri, Nisha Ganatra, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow, and Celia Costas. Warner Bros. Television is producing the series, marking another screen adaptation of Lahiri's work, following the 2006 film 'The Namesake.' No release date has been announced yet.
