Great South Run Cancelled Due to Storm

The Great South Run, scheduled for October 20 in Portsmouth, has been cancelled due to severe weather conditions, including high winds, rain, and potential debris from Storm Ashley. Organisers stated that they were unable to ensure the safety of participants, staff, and volunteers, as the forecasted conditions would compromise event infrastructure, including medical facilities. Over 20,000 runners were expected to participate in the 10-mile race, which takes place along the coast. Participants will be contacted next week regarding options to roll over their entries to next year's event or claim a refund. Organisers expressed their disappointment and emphasized the decision was made after careful consideration and consultation with safety teams and local authorities.
